President's Report

Michael Messimore | Published on 1/5/2022

2021 is in the rear view mirror.  While the year was filled with challenges to our freedoms on most every front, the Tulsa Ski Club had a great year.  I thought it might be good to highlight the year in review.  We welcomed a ton of new members and had a lot of fun.

In January we had an awesome trip to Telluride for a non-traditional Flatlands Ski Week.  They wouldn’t let us race and we didn’t have any banquets but if the Tulsa Ski Club is there, you can bet the fun is also.  The snow was good and the friends were better.  It will never be official but the Tulsa Ski Club won Flatlands 2021.

The February trip to Taos fell victim to Covid but some of the members quickly put together a trip to Wolf Creek.  I wasn’t there but I’ve seen the videos and it looked like fun.

March was supposed to be a Texas Ski Council trip to Lake Louise but Canada wouldn’t let us dirty Americans in.  The trip was another Covid casualty.  What do you do when Canada is closed?  You go to Whitefish Montana where we had a lift 20 yards from the door to the condos.  If you haven’t been to Whitefish, it is a huge mountain with views of Glacier National Park and no lift lines.  The convenient shuttle took us to one of the best pizza places ever and other great places to eat.  I’m looking forward to FSA at Whitefish in 2023.

When ski season ended we couldn’t stop the fun.

In April we had a visit to the Farmers Market and She Brews.

In May we had a bonfire and cookout at Andrea Adam’s home.  We had games, food, and good fellowship.

In June some members volunteered at John 3:16 plus we had a golf tournament/picnic at LaFortune.

In July we took a Summer trip to Colorado that will be hard to top.  We stayed in Manitou Springs at a historic hotel with a Pike’s Peak view from the Veranda.  We took a little hike from Manitou Springs to 14,115 feet Pike’s Peak (10 hours, 13.5 miles, and 7,400 feet of elevation gain).  This was followed up the next day with white water rafting and zip lining at 60 MPH. Haven Willis planned a great trip.  In July we also had a Skiers Night Out at the Drillers and a pool party at Andrea Adam’s home.  It was a busy month.

August was another busy month.  First we had a Lake Party and campout at Skiatook Lake then we had a white water rafting and baseball game trip to Oklahoma City.

September was the Winter Trip sign up party and games followed by a guided fishing trip.

October was highlighted by the Beavers Bend campout where we had bonfires, hiking, and kayaking.

In November we had a big turnout for bowling at the Dust Bowl.

December capped off the year with the Snowball where we got a little dressed up, had catered food, a great DJ who knew how to get people dancing, and a ton of door prizes.  It was a lot of fun and planning for the 2022 Snowball has begun.

If you take all these things with the monthly skiers night out and general meetings it made for a very busy and fun year.  I’m looking forward to 2022 being even better.

The new Tulsa Ski Club board will take over May 1st.  If you want to be part of the planning for trips, get togethers, and other fun activities, let the nomination committee know.  Board meetings are once per month and historically last about an hour.  The time commitment is small but the impact you will have on your club mates is huge.
